Technology

Oklahoma Christian students have the best learning technology available anywhere. And they can't even imagine going to school without it. Why? Because every student has a high-speed wireless laptop computer.

Oklahoma Christian launched its wireless campus in 2001, distributing laptops with wireless Internet to every full-time student. This summer, all faculty and all new students attending New Student Orientations will be issued a new Apple MacBook! OC is the first university in Oklahoma and one of the few nationwide that offers a wireless campus and laptop computers to all students. Students can access the Internet or myOC, the university's personalized, web-based portal, from virtually anywhere on campus, even outside in the Forum. This means they have access to assignments, grades and research materials from anywhere. No trudging across campus to a computer lab.

What does this mean for learning? It means students spend less time preparing to learn and more time learning. Their laptops are with them in some classes, in the library and in the dining room - and they always are connected.

What does it mean for OC's community? It means students, professors, and staff are connected online through email, online educational chat, academic message boards, and even instant messaging.  Relationships are enhanced in and out of the classroom and stronger community is created.

We're not the only ones proud of these accomplishments. When Oklahoma Congressman Ernest Istook came to tour the campus, he said "We need more vision like this in Oklahoma to help people prepare for the high-tech jobs of tomorrow and to help bring those jobs here. I think it's terrific for the students, I think it's terrific for the school and for the state."
